It may not be jazz, but here’s a great opportunity for Kingston music lovers to make a difference:
A Haitian Relief Benefit Concert will be held on Sunday, January 24th at Brandee’s Restaurant & Lounge, 178 Ontario Street, Kingston. This event has been organized to raise money to assist the people of Haiti whose lives have been devastated by the recent earthquake in that country.
Doors will open at 3 pm. Music will be provided by DJ Easton from 3 pm to 6 pm. The concert itself will run from 6 – 11 pm, beginning with a welcome from Dan Hamel, Disaster Management Team Volunteer Operational Lead for the Brockville and District branch of the Canadian Red Cross Society.
The show, cohosted by local musician and comedian Roger James and the K-Rock 105.7 FM Morning Krew, will feature great music by local groups lovehandles, The Rain Kings, The Growing Pains, Trevor Walsh Group, The Change and others TBA, all of whom are donating their time and talent. Sound equipment is being donated by Kingston Soundworks.
10% of Brandee’s drink and food sales for the entire day will be donated to the cause. In addition, Brandee’s wait staff have announced that they will all be donating their wages to the event! Please tip.
Silent Auctions of Valentine’s Day themed merchandise packages, donated by local businesses, will begin at 3 pm and run Cialis until 8:20 pm. Winning bids will be announced at 9 pm. Winners must be present at time of draw, or the package will go to the second highest bid, and so on until a winner is found. Live Auctions of similar packages will also be held between the evening musical performances. Both the Live and Silent Auctions will be conducted on a cash-only basis. No personal cheques or credit cards can be accepted, given the nature of the event.
It should be noted that from 12 Jan thru to 12 Feb the Canadian Government is matching ALL contributions to the Canadian Red Cross Society (CRC) up to $50 million dollars, so whatever funds we are able to raise at our event will be doubly effective. The time to help is now.
