Toronto’s LINA ALLEMANO FOUR has been hailed as one of Canada’s most vibrant cutting edge avant-jazz groups. Known internationally for their inventiveness and synergy, they deftly blur the line between composition and improvisation. Their music showcases Lina’s progressive and open compositional style combined with her band’s exquisite expressiveness and knack for the unexpected. A stimulating dynamic of interaction and spontaneity assures that the group’s performances are always lighthearted and full of surprises.
Hot on the heels of the Lina Allemano Four, The KJS will be presenting The Kandinsky Effect on Thursday, October 20th at Studio 22. (320 King St E, 2nd floor, across from market square. Tickets are $10 at the door. Doors open at 7pm.
The Kandinsky Effect made their Kingston debut last October on their first North American tour. The innovative Paris-based trio consists of:
- Warren Walker – Saxophone/Electronics
- Gael Petrina – Double Bass
- Gauthier Garrigue – Drums
The Kandinsky Effect is an album that can be appreciated on many levels—a cursory listen is perfect as conversation-starting background music at a Parisian soirée, while a closer listen rewards listeners with moments. Walker, Petrina and Garrigue will continue to be heard from as they develop their individual and collective sounds.
The trio will be performing in Kingston at Studio 22 on Thursday, October 20th as a part of their second North American tour.
