This just in: Dave Coon will be interviewing Chantal Thompson today on his weekly radio show, Swing, Swang, Swung. (Saturday’s 2-4 on CFRC 101.9)

You can catch Chantal in Music In The Park, part of this year’s Jazz in June portion of the Skeleton Park Arts Fest, on June 24 at noon.

Chantal Thompson is a local jazz and multidisciplinary artist who recently moved back to Kingston from NYC, where she recorded her first solo jazz cd with many great players from New York and Kingston. She has toured around previously with other bands such as directions, a seven piece fusion band, playing the Montreal jazz festival and the Jazz Café in London England, and was remixed by numerous international djs.

On her latest album Sirens & Stars, Chantal re- imagines beautiful soulful standards and originals in the cool jazz genre, with a bluesy introspection.

“People have described the record as having a cinematic quality and this is something I am definitely interested in exploring.” To sum it up, Nina Simone, Billy Holiday and Ornette Coleman.
