CHET DOXAS QUARTET feat. DAVE DOUGLAS & STEVE SWALLOW
Arguably the greatest jazz concert to come to Westport and The Cove, Chet Doxas returns with his brother Jimmy Doxas on drums and the famous bass player Steve Swallow and trumpet player Dave Douglas of NYC! Chet has provided absolutely mind blowing jazz/instrumental improvisational talent to our venue and will continue to do so with his next tour in a series which has had him inviting world class jazz players to tour, perform and record his compositions. His past shows brought John Abercrombie, The Barr Brothers, Eric Doob and Matt Stevens here recently!
Dave Douglas is undoubtedly one of the jazz world’s elite creative forces both as player and composer with an insatiable appetite for passionate playing and inventive lineups. Since 1993, he has led prolific groups such as Tiny Bell Trio, his own quartets, quintets, sextets and septets, with the likes of Joe Lovano, Jim McNeely, Donny McCaslin, and the best of NYC jazz hot bed of young guns…
Steve Swallow is in a word unique. A jazz legend, he’s been recording with the greats since the early sixties. Among his contemporaries are Gary Burton, Carla Bley, Paul Bley, John Scofield and Joe Lovano to name a short few. His individualism of tone and concept on his hybrid five string electric bass is matched by no other.
Now full time with Canadian pianist legend Oliver Jones, Jimmy Doxas is a seriously lyrical drummer with about as much flash and flavour that one could add to a group. His tempo and feel keep a band floating in mid air all the while anchoring the ship in the storm.
His brother Chet has brought nothing but jaw dropping sound to The Cove since his first show with Jimmy and Abercrombie. Now needing no introduction, Chet is the full time saxophonist for Sam Roberts Band is one of the most important young voices on the Canadian jazz scene. His music and playing has fire and fury.
This will be a show to remember for decades.
